Thugs plaster home of 95-year-old woman with graffiti
Tuesday, 15 September 2009
Vandals who plastered the home of a 95-year-old woman with graffiti have been branded “despicable beyond words”.
Annie McCormick (95) was horrified when she woke to find that her Carnvue Road bungalow in Carnmoney had been painted with the graffiti.
The vandals plastered “Kill all huns; UDA; IRA; PSNI; Combat 18 and Continuity IRA” on her walls with green paint stolen from a shed in a nearby street sometime between midnight and 5am yesterday.
Her daughter Liz McGregor said Annie was left very distressed by the incident.
“She is very shaky. I would like police to catch whoever has done this,” she said. “I wouldn't like this to happen to some other pensioner.”
Mrs McGregor said her mother was shocked to be woken by the police and told about the vandalism at her home.
“This has happened in the middle of the night. The milkman reported the mess to the police and they had to bang on her bedroom window to waken her,” she said.
SDLP councillor Noreen McClelland branded the vandals as “despicable beyond words”.
“They have achieved a new low in the sordid world of sectarian intimidation.”
A PSNI spokesman said an investigation has been launched.

the acts of children, plain and simple. or at least, people with childs minds. I do agree however it cant be seen in anyway as sectarian..its clearly nothing more than yobs picking on the vulnerable...if anything its anti-establishment in general, including republicanism/loyalists/law.

Brent Clements you do indeed seem confused. How does a message saying: "kill all IRA" mean that this is pro-IRA? Did you just look at the one picture? I notice in the Telegraph's printed paper they chose to just use a shot on the woman looking at the words IRA on her window. BT not giving the full picture once again. This would give the impression that it was in support. However it you look at what was painted in full it is clear it has anti-IRA, anti-foreigners and anti everything. These people are scumbags.

Pantip,
Unfortunately your husband is one of many "bitter" people in N.Ireland, on all sides, who only know how to DESTROY. They do not have the heart, or the ability, to BUILD! Sad isn't it?

"Achieved a new low"? If these filthy vermin went any lower they would have to start tunneling! A lady of 95 deserves respect and protection, not fear and alarm.
I wish Mrs McCormick a speedy recovery from this ordeal and hope she knows all right thinking people are united in condemning this atrocity.

BM who said this sectarian? It clearly wasn't. This was the work of lunatics with no motive other than being scumbags.

Just in case anyone is confused here - I don't think this was carried out by people supporting paramilitaries on one side or the other. The messages included anti-ira, anti-psni, anti-combat 18, and anti-loyalist groups. Also included swastikas and racist messages against foreigners. This is surely the work of hoods - probably drunk and drugged up. I can't think of any other reason. We need to unite against hoods - a scourge on all our communities. Lets not turn this into a sectarian debate. These people are an attack on all our lives. It is disgusting and we need something done. For their sakes they better hope that they are caught by the police and not anyone else.

This tit for tat sectarian nonsense has to stop before it consumes our country once again! The police must get heavy with these morons without the constant fear of antagonising the extremists. Decency must prevail.

Brent Clements, you seem as confused as the thugs who wrote the wargle bargle on this poor ladies house

It's about time people were made accountable for their actions and if they are too young in the eyes of the law then the parents should be made accountable. Why can no one in the government see this ?

Drugs breeds thugs!!! The scum that did this are on something and its not planet Earth!! Get them into jobs that will cure them as they have nothing better to do!

Well done boys ! Great job. I'm sure you are so proud of yourselves not to mention your Mothers and Fathers. Did you have Grandparents when you were dragged up ? I'm sure you didn't paint her windows and damage her property. The only thing you have achieved here is frightening this poor woman beyond reason and having all decent people in Northern Ireland wanting to pull you limb from limb.

what brave heroes these despicable people are when the only way to further their misguided principles is to launch an attack on elderly lady in her home. once again bringing shame upon the people of Belfast these are not the principles your forefathers fought and gave all for

And if they catch them, the court will slap their hands. The dogooders policy is worthless and the people commiting the crimes know it. A public whipping with a bull whip whould do the trick.
