Titanic exhibition sails into Dublin
Tuesday, 8 December 2009
Almost 100 years after the Titanic sank beneath icy waters on an April night in 1912, the spirit of the great ship is coming to Ireland.
Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition, which has been seen by over 22 million people worldwide, arrives at the Citywest Event Centre, Dublin, next Saturday, December 19.
The compelling human stories of those who died and those who survived are retold through recreated sets, identical to the rooms aboard the ship, and using more than 300 authentic artefacts recovered from the Titanic's wreck site.
A top hat, a gentleman's spectacles, the Titanic bell, the steering-wheel stand, the officers' window, china from all three classes, a telegraph base, the perfume of Saalfeld and a piece of Titanic's hull . . . these and many other objects offer emotional connections to lives abruptly ended or forever altered.
Visitors will receive a replica boarding pass of a Titanic passenger before embarking on a chronological journey through the ship's construction to life on board, the ill-fated sinking, and rescue efforts.
They can tour recreated first and third-class cabins, the ship's cargo hold and boiler room, press their palms against an actual iceberg, and learn some of the countless stories of heroism and humanity of her passengers and crew.
One gallery is dedicated to local Irish connection and how the country reacted to the tragedy. In the final gallery, guests can take their boarding pass to the memorial wall and learn if their passenger and travelling companions survived or perished.
Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition runs from December 19 to June 2010 and is open from 10am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday.
Tickets, priced at €18 for adults, €14 for students and seniors, and €12 for children, are available at www.titanicdublin.com or from Ticketmaster.

A really good exhibition, hope it is coming to Belfast in 2012, were many people have a connection to the building of the Titanic, my own great grandfather his father and brothers among them.

this is something special. I didnt think that somthing this important would ever come to the country , which has real connections with the ship and the people who lost their lives. Well done to the people involved in bringing this to dublin .

My partner and I are are members of the Belfast Titanic Society and are getting married on the 31st of March 2012 on her sister ship Nomadic. We are then heading off on the Titanic's 100th anniversary cruise for our honeymoon. We are so excited about this exhibition and cant wait to see it. We are driving from Belfast on the 6th January and are going to spend the day at the exhibition. It's going to be a fantastic day out.

Hi,
It would be very fitting if the exhibition could be brought to Cobh, given the obvious connection.
Regards,
Liam

Lumina, which Centenary will you be marking? 2011, when the ship was launched in Belfast or 2012 (which Belfast seems to wish to celebrate) when 1,500 perished?

Sounds good but when is this exhibition coming to Belfast, where the Titanic was built?
It is a disgrace and somewhat pathetic that other cities seem to have stolen the march on Belfast when it comes to Titanic issues and the impending Centenary.
