TV battle over Ireland's crunch World Cup match
Monday, 16 November 2009
The battle to screen Ireland's crunch World Cup play-off game with France in Paris on Wednesday will go down to the wire, TV bosses said last night.
An agreement was still up in the air after another day of fruitless negotiations between RTE and the French Football Federation (FFF).
Sources admitted the continuing brinkmanship over the fee meant fans may not know until hours before kick-off whether the game will be shown on TV.
The FFF wants €1.5m for the rights to the game. RTE has offered about €600,000, in line with previous games.

600k seems a lot to see Southern Ireland getting pumped out of the World Cup. I can understand RTE's reluctance.
