Two people are recovering in hospital after they were knocked down outside their own house in south Armagh following a Christmas dinner.
The woman in her 50s and the man in his 30s were getting out of a taxi on the Maphoner Road near Silverbridge around 2.20am on Sunday when they were struck by a car.
The woman was in a serious condition in hospital last night while the man is believed to be less seriously ill.
Another man was also hit but did not need to go to hospital.
The car continued on without stopped in the direction of Mullaghbawn.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the smash and said the car would have sustained damage to the front as a result of the collision.
Sinn Fein councillor Anthony Flynn appealed to the driver to hand himself in to the police.
“I understand the people had been coming home from a Christmas dinner when they were hit outside their own house,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
“I would just say that anyone can have an accident but you do not just drive off, you stop and help.
“The family of whoever did this must know too so I would appeal to anyone with any information about this to give it to police.”
