Boy charged with murder after 16-year-old student stabbed to death on birthday

Police have tonight charged a 15-year-old boy with murder, after a bus passenger died when he was repeatedly stabbed on his 16th birthday.

Police launched a murder investigation after Derek Boateng, from Hackney in east London, died yesterday from multiple knife wounds inflicted at 3pm on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old student was taken to an east London hospital by air ambulance but died from his injuries last night.

A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody at a north London police station tonight having been charged over the killing.
