Credit Union robbed by gang wielding axes

Axe-wielding raiders have held up a credit union in south Armagh.

Terrified staff were threatened by the three-man gang during the ordeal on Main Street in Forkhill, south Armagh.

Detectives believe the robbers were also armed with a black handgun.

The trio entered the premises shortly after 7.30pm on Friday before forcing workers to hand over a sum of money. It is believed they made their getaway in a silver coloured VW Golf.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has any information is asked to contact detectives at Newry CID on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
