Actor Darren Day has joined the cast of Hollyoaks - as a new bad boy.
The West End star, who acquired a reputation as a "love rat" after relationships with actresses such as Anna Friel, Tracy Shaw and Suzanne Shaw, will join the Channel 4 show next month.
Day, who has also been a contestant on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, is to play Danny Houston, the best friend of nasty Brendan Brady (Emmett J Scanlan).
His character is also the silent partner in the Chez Chez nightclub run by Cheryl Brady (Bronagh Waugh).
The arrival of dodgy dealer Danny looks likely to spell trouble for the residents of Hollyoaks, especially Jacqui McQueen (Claire Cooper) who is unable to resist his charm, money and power and embarks on a fling, despite dating Brendan.
Day said: "Danny is the type of character any actor would kill to play. I've been a fan of the show for some time and this is a very exciting time with the show's recent reinvention. I'm delighted to join the cast."
Hollyoaks producer Paul Marquess said: "Danny Houston is a dangerous, but very charming character who makes an aggressive impact in his first episodes. Darren plays the part brilliantly and I'm delighted that we're able to bring him back later this year."
He will be seen from October 11, and will make a "shocking" return later in the year, according to soap bosses.
