Douglas joins star for CBE date

Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta Jones and her husband Michael Douglas, with their children Dylan and Carys

Hollywood star Catherine Zeta Jones has spoken of her happiness at being able to collect her CBE with her husband, Michael Douglas, by her side after his much-publicised fight against throat cancer.

The Welsh beauty who became an Oscar-winning star received the honour for services to the film industry and to charity from the Prince of Wales.

She revealed that she was nervous before the Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony but described the experience as an important one.

The 41-year-old Swansea-born actress said after the event: "It means a lot to come home with my family and to be honoured in this way - very emotional, rather nervous I must say, and it was worth (it) to have Michael in good health to be able to enjoy it (with me)."

Douglas and the couple's two children, Dylan, 10, and Carys, seven, joined her at the palace and watched from seats in its ballroom as Charles made her a CBE.

The actor looked thin despite revealing recently that he has beaten cancer and that his tumour has gone. He has said he now needs monthly checks.

The actress revealed that she had chatted to the Prince about her husband's health and said Charles had expressed his sympathy.

She added: "Obviously we talked about Michael. The last time I saw His Royal Highness, Michael had just got his treatment so he was concerned, but he was very happy to hear... he's well on the road to recovery."
