Comedy legend Sir Norman Wisdom will be laid to rest at a funeral service.

Hundreds of people are expected to line the streets of Douglas on the Isle of Man, where the cortege will pass along the promenade.

Sir Norman's family, friends, celebrities and the general public will pay their respects to the much-loved star at St George's Church in the town.

The burial itself will be closed to the public and the press.

A spokesman said: "Sir Norman's immediate family have specifically requested that the subsequent burial itself be a completely personal affair, enabling them to mourn in private."

The comedian died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 95 at the Abbotswood Nursing Home on the Isle of Man on October 4.

In the last six months of his life his mental and physical health declined.

Sir Norman, a keen Arsenal fan, lived on the Isle of Man in a home filled with antiques, which he collected as a hobby.

He married showgirl Freda Simpson when he was 27 but they divorced in 1969. They had two children, Nick and Jacqui.
