House siege after man 'fires gun'

Police officers were called after reports a gun had been fired outside a property in Thurmaston

Police are at the scene of an armed siege in a village after reports that a man fired a gun in the garden of a house.

Leicestershire Police officers were called at 5.11pm on Thursday after reports that the firearm had been discharged outside the property in Manston Close, Thurmaston.

A force spokeswoman said that when firearms officers arrived at the scene a man had locked himself inside the house.

It is not thought anyone else is inside.

People in the local area have been asked to stay indoors and roads in the area closed off as specialist officers deal with the situation.

Neighbours close to the house took to Twitter to upload pictures of police officers and fire engines at the scene.

One resident, 38-year-old Andy Woods, told the Leicester Mercury: "I thought I heard a gunshot and I thought it might be time to move back. Basically, it's just been police coming and going and fire engines."
