Singer Lily Allen has accepted damages over allegations that she made offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.

A judge at the High Court in London was told that the case arose out of an article published in a football magazine in May 2009.

The star's solicitor-advocate Mark Thomson told Mr Justice Eady the publishers of So Foot, a French language magazine, now accepted Ms Allen had not made the statements attributed to her.

He said the defendant, So Press, had agreed to apologise and also "pay the claimant damages and legal costs".

Mr Thomson said in those circumstances her "reputation has been vindicated".
