Man trapped under car in drive dies

Fire crews managed to free the man from under his car, but he was pronounced dead at the scene

A man has died after getting trapped under a car on his own driveway, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man became trapped under the vehicle on a private driveway in Yealmpton, near Plymouth, in the South Hams area of Devon, shortly before 1pm.

Firefighters from nearby Plymstock and Plympton managed to free him at the house on Munro Avenue using hydraulic rescue equipment but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "The man's next of kin has been informed. He has not been formally identified.

"The death, which is not being treated as suspicious, will be investigated on behalf of the coroner."
