An eight-year-old boy who was reported missing by his family has been found after a police search operation.

West Midlands Police appealed for the public's help to trace Romeo Mayhead, who was last seen after going to bed on Monday night at his home in Willenhall, near Walsall.

A police spokesman said Romeo has since been found safe and well in the local area.

The youngster, from the Short Heath area, was reported missing at around 8.30am on Tuesday.

Romeo was found on Rough Hay Road, Darlaston, and is set to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

Superintendent Keith Fraser, from Walsall Police, said: "Dozens of officers were involved in the search to find young Romeo and we are pleased to say that he has been found.

"We are hugely grateful to the public for their assistance with this appeal and it is encouraging to see how so many people came forward to offer help in the community, as well as on social media. Thankfully, the story has a happy ending."
