Newborn baby found on park bench

A newborn baby found on a park bench is being cared for at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary

A newborn baby has been found on a park bench.

The baby girl was discovered in Hailesland Park in the Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh at about 12.55pm.

There was no sign of the baby's mother in the area and police said they are concerned for her well-being.

The baby, who was found on the bench by a passer-by behind Kilncroft stair, has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she is being cared for by staff.

Chief Inspector Richard Thomas said: "We are greatly concerned for the well-being of this baby girl's mother and are urging her to seek medical attention.

"We would ask anyone who might know who the mother is to encourage her to see a doctor urgently."
