Olympic-crime gangs set to fleece London tourists

London is set to attract criminals from around the world who plan to steal from tourists during the Olympic games, the Daily Mail has reported.

Police say that gangs from as far away as South America are planning on taking advantage of the occasion by flocking to England to pickpocket and even pose as policemen.

Already Eastern European criminals have been passing themselves off as ‘plain-dressed’ officers and imposing fines on unsuspecting members of the public.

The conmen have fooled visitors into thinking they are legitimate officers by flashing fake warrant cards and carrying out 'routine' bag searches.

A number of suspects have already been arrested.

A Metropolitan police officer heading the team behind ‘Olympics-related’ crimes said: “They are preying on the vulnerability to tourists. It is theft. No officer will make any demand for money.”
