Pair charged with monkey cruelty

Julie Jones leaves Dudley Magistrates' Court where she has denied four charges brought under the Animal Welfare Act
Lee Powell is alleged to have failed to ensure the needs of a marmoset-type monkey were met

Two people have appeared before magistrates charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a juvenile monkey at their home.

Lee Powell, 50, and Julie Jones, 41, both denied four charges brought under the Animal Welfare Act during a brief appearance at Dudley Magistrates' Court.

The defendants, both of Sunderland Drive, Amblecote, Stourbridge, West Midlands, are alleged to have failed to ensure the needs of a marmoset-type monkey were met between March 1 and June 15 this year.

Powell and Jones, who are being prosecuted by the RSPCA, were granted unconditional bail to appear for trial at the same court on December 13.
