In 1989, rock star Bob Geldof, his wife, TV presenter Paula Yates, and their five-year-old daughter Fifi Trixiebelle, show off the new addition to their family, an as yet unnamed baby girl (later named Peaches), at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London. Peaches Geldof has died at the age of 25, the BBC reported tonight.

Tributes to Peaches Geldof have been pouring in after news of her death emerged yesterday.

Irish President Michael D Higgins, who begins a state visit to Britain today and was due to meet Geldof during the trip, said his thoughts were with the family.

"I extend my deepest sympathies to Bob Geldof and his family on the sudden and untimely death of his daughter Peaches," he said.

"This is such a difficult cross to bear for any family and all of our thoughts are with Peaches' family and friends at this time. Sabina and I were due to meet Bob Geldof while on the state visit and we are thinking of him at this time of immense loss."

In a statement posted on her website, singer Sinead O'Connor paid tribute to Ms Geldof and Sean Fogerty, whose body was found at the weekend after he went missing last month.

She said: "I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Fogarty family and the Geldof family on the dreadful losses of Sean and of Peaches this week. I'm so, so sad that these deaths have happened and that people I love so much have been given such awful pain."

This Morning host Phillip Schofield, who appeared with Ms Geldof on the ITV show, wrote: "Utterly stunned at the terrible news of the death of Peaches Geldof! The dreadful loss of a really lovely woman."

His co-host Holly Willoughby said: "Just heard about Peaches, so unbelievably tragic. So shocked and sad. Sending my thoughts and love to her family".

Singer Ellie Goulding said: "Even if you think you've got it all figured out, some things still can't be explained or understood. Two beautiful children. RIP Peaches".

Her friend the model Daisy Lowe posted a picture of a broken heart on Twitter.

Sharon Osbourne wrote: "Devastated about @peaches-g. Sending condolences & respect to the Geldof family. It's unimaginable what they must be going through right now."

Lily Allen said: "My thoughts are with Peaches' family at this awful time. I hope they get to grieve in peace. Peaches, rest in peace gorgeous girl".

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton said: "May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest".

Spandau Baller star Martin Kemp tweeted: "RIP Peaches Geldof, what do you say, my heart goes out to Bob and all his family, I truly am saddened by this horrible news!"

Coleen Rooney, wife of England footballer Wayne, tweeted: "Can't believe what I have just heard. RIP Peaches Geldof, such sad news."
