Plane forced to turn back over windscreen tape

A Ryanair flight was forced to turn back 20 minutes after takeoff when a piece of tape fixed around the plane's new windscreen came loose, writes Siobhan Creaton.

Some of the 200 passengers on the flight between London's Stansted airport and Riga in Latvia said they were "terrified" to hear "alarming noises" as the pilot told them he was returning to London because of "damage to the windscreen".

The incident, which happened at the end of September, was investigated by the Irish Aviation Authority.

The IAA has now concluded its investigation and says the procedures carried out at the technical and flying end were all correct.
