An 85-year-old former Roman Catholic priest has appeared in court charged with 27 sexual offences against children.
Francis Paul Cullen appeared at Derby Magistrates' Court, to face charges relating to three boys who were aged between eight and 14-years-old at the time of the alleged offences.
He was detained on a European arrest warrant and extradited from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, where he has been living, after an application by Derbyshire Police to their Spanish counterparts.
A spokesman for the force said all the offences were allegedly committed between 1956 and 1991 in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
He is charged with 16 counts of indecent assault, 10 counts of gross indecency and faces a further charge of an attempted sexual assault.
Cullen was remanded in custody to appear at the crown court in September.
