Prince of Wales visits Waterloo revamp
Friday, 27 January 2012
The Prince of Wales will today unveil his architecture charity's new 'brand identity' as he visits a London district his organisation is helping to transform.
Charles will meet residents, business people and traders from the Waterloo station area who see the major train terminal as a barrier at the heart of their community.
The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment was commissioned by the board of Waterloo Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) to produce a series of recommendations on the sustainable development of the area.
A website developed by the Foundation, in partnership with BID, canvassed the views of the community, who indicated they wanted to build on the district's cultural attractions - restaurants, bars and theatres like the Old Vic - so it becomes a hub for local businesses and residents.
Charles will be joined by Foundation ambassador Kirstie Allsopp, co-presenter of the Channel 4 property show Location, Location, Location, during his tour of the Waterloo area.
Later at St James's Palace, the Prince will make a speech about the importance of local people and communities in sustainable development, and unveil the Foundation's new brand.
