The newlywed Royal couple could be forced to spend time apart after RAF chiefs drew up plans to post Prince William to the Falkland Islands next year.

It is understood plans to send the Duke of Cambridge more than 8,000 miles away as part of his Sea King search and rescue pilot training are at an advanced stage.

If the plan comes to pass it will mean the second in line to the throne will be on the islands for the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war between Britain and Argentina.

The posting is sure to put strain on British-Argentine relations as the the South American country continues to lay claim to the disputed South Atlantic Islands.

Two years ago speculation the prince could be sent to the Falklands sparked condemnation from senior officials in Argentina. News of the possible forced separation of Prince William and his new bride, the Duchess of Cambridge (right), comes less than a week after one million people turned out on the streets of London to watch their wedding.

If Prince William receives orders to go abroad it will be the first time the Royal couple will have been separated for a long period since their big day.

While the pair have postponed their honeymoon for several weeks, they spent a romantic weekend break together at a secret location.

Although some servicemen’s families are based on the islands, it is unlikely the Prince’s new wife will travel with him.

Should he be sent abroad, he will be posted to Mount Pleasant airfield on the island of East Falkland, an hour from the capital, Stanley.

Meanwhile, it has emerged the Duke’s best man, Prince Harry, had a secret pocket sewn into his Blues and Royals military uniform to hold the all important wedding ring. The future king's younger brother was so frightened of losing the gold ring he asked tailor Kashket & Partners to stitch in a secret pocket.

A spokesman for Kashket and Partners said: “Harry, aware that he would be waving to the crowds, feared he may drop the ring.”
