Supermarkets cut petrol prices

Two supermarket chains have announced cuts in fuel prices

Hard-pressed motorists received some respite when two supermarket chains announced cuts in fuel prices.

First Morrisons said it would be reducing petrol by 1p a litre and diesel by up to 3p a litre from Tuesday.

Then Asda announced it was knocking 1p a litre off petrol and 4p off diesel - also from Tuesday.

Morrisons petrol director Mark Todd said: "Wholesale fuel prices are coming down and at Morrisons we always want to pass on savings as soon as we can."

Asda's petrol director Andy Peake promised that no one would pay more than 135.7p a litre for diesel and 134.7p for petrol at its 180 forecourts.

A Tesco spokesman said most of its stores will get a 1p per litre reduction on unleaded and every forecourt will see a reduction of up to 3p per litre.
