Three held in kidnap and rape probe

Northumbria Police arrested three men at a Newcastle hotel after a woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped

Police have arrested three men at a city centre hotel after a woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped.

Officers in Newcastle received a call from a man at 11.27pm on New Year's Day after he became concerned for his wife's welfare.

He was worried after she failed to return home and police attended the Royal Station Hotel in central Newcastle, where they found a 22-year-old woman.

She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary to be checked over for a head injury.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently in police custody.

A 52-year-old was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap and a 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

The two older men have since been released on police bail.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Inquiries are in their early stages and there are no further details at this time."
