A toddler is in critical condition after a collision involving an ice-cream van.

Police were called to the Northbrooks area of Harlow, Essex, after reports of the incident at about 5.30pm yesterday.

The 22-month-old was initially taken to the Princess Alexandria Hospital in Harlow but has now been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, Essex Police said.

The road was closed for more than three hours while police carried out initial investigations.
