Tories edge past Labour in poll

David Cameron's Tories have edged ahead of Labour in a new poll

The Conservatives have edged ahead of Labour for the first time in more than a year, according to a poll.

Support for the Tories stands at 39%, up a percentage point on last month, while that for Labour is unchanged on 38%, the ComRes survey for the Independent on Sunday and Sunday Mirror found. The Liberal Democrats were down one on 10%.

ComRes said it was the first time since October 2010 that the Tories had been ahead, having picked up a sustained four-point boost since Prime Minister David Cameron wielded Britain's veto at the European Council in December.

ComRes interviewed 2,014 British adults online on February 15 and 16, weighting data to be demographically representative of all UK adults and by past vote recall.
