Police discovered a woman stabbed to death at a house after a man was found hanged in a nearby park.
Murder detectives said they are keeping an "open mind" over whether the incidents are linked.
Post-mortem examinations are being carried out to identify when the woman, found at a property in Bow, east London, was killed.
She was found on Wednesday morning, two days after the man was found hanging several streets away in Weavers Fields.
Officers from Scotland Yard's homicide division are investigating the two discoveries.
The woman, found in Brymay Close and believed to be in her late 20s, had suffered multiple stab wounds.
"We await formal identification and next of kin," a police spokesman said. "A post-mortem examination will be held at Poplar."
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead when officers and London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene on Sunday.
A police spokesman added: "An incident room has opened at the Homicide and Serious Crime Command under DCI John Sandlin.
"We are provisionally linking the two incidents but inquiries continue and we retain an open mind at this early stage."
