A female pedestrian is in a critical condition after being hit by an unmarked police car in east London, Scotland Yard has said.

The police car was travelling with its emergency lights on when it struck the woman, aged in her 30s, at around 11.30pm last night on Kingsland Road near Dalston Kingsland overground station in Hackney.

The woman was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said the police car was on its way to an incident when the collision occurred.

Local road closures are in place.

No arrests have been made.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for consideration.
