Women flock to Aintree Ladies' Day

Thousands of women are set to flock to the 164th Grand National meeting at Aintree

Thousands of women are expected to attend Ladies' Day at the 164th John Smith's Grand National.

A busy day of racing at the world's most famous steeplechase will almost be a distraction as Aintree hosts one of the most fashionable events in the racing calendar.

Tens of thousands of revellers will head to Merseyside bringing with them a breath-taking range of outfits.

Ladies' Day is a firm fixture on the North West social calendar, frequented by celebrity Wags such as Coleen Rooney and Alex Curran.

It traditionally sees an entertaining mix of genuine haute couture and sartorial faux pas as punters compete to be noticed and entered in the Style 2011 competition.

High street chain Debenhams has reported a spike in the sales of its beauty products in local stores in the run up to the event.

Emma Owen, marketing and PR manager at Aintree Racecourse, said: "We're not at all surprised to hear that sales of beauty products have gone through the roof ahead of Ladies' Day at the Grand National.

"The festival attracts lots of stunning girls who always go to a lot of effort to look their best for the North West's biggest social day out."
