The decision by X Factor judges to save Katie Waissel from the boot has divided fans of the TV talent show.
Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole put Cole's act through, while Simon Cowell backed his own act, boyband FYD.
The eccentric singer got through to the live finals after Cole caused controversy by choosing her and Cher Lloyd - despite poor performances at the previous stage of the contest - at the expense of Gamu Nhengu, who is facing deportation.
Katie and FYD had to sing again on Sunday to try to persuade the judges they should stay after Italian Nicolo Festa was automatically booted off with the fewest viewer votes following Saturday's live performances.
Walsh considered sending the vote to deadlock, but decided to "do the right thing" by casting the deciding vote which sent Cowell's act home.
On the Digital Spy internet forum, a viewer, Captain Angel, wrote: "No should have gone to deadlock - let the public decide..."
Another, jlay, wrote: "Louis and Danni bottled it."
Others disagreed, with Lyricalis writing: "The group were pretty awful and Katie sung her heart out. She still wasn't brilliant, but far better than the group."
Another wrote: "FYD were terrible last night and even worse tonight. Katie redeemed herself well and truly, she deserved to stay."
Other fans were struck by Cole's appearance, after a week in which she has come under fire for not putting through Gamu. A viewer, abercrombie, wrote: "I thought Cheryl looked terrible, tired with puffy eyes as if she's been crying a lot. Simon stood by her to give her support when they were announcing the losers."
