Ulsterman to be charged with rape in Scotland

A Northern Ireland man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a teenager at the Royal Highland Show in Scotland.

The 17-year-old girl, from the north-east of Scotland, was assaulted during a Young Farmers’ Ball at the annual show in Ingliston, Edinburgh, on June 27.

Officers from Lothian and Borders Police arrested a 29-year-old man at an address in Co Tyrone on Friday.

Police had taken the unusual step of asking guests at the Young Farmers' Ball to send any photographs they took at the gathering.

Her family also issued an appeal for information and said they had been left “devastated”.

The 29-year-old is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
