A pilot has been arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of being drunk.
The United Airlines departure to Chicago was “imminent”, with 124 passengers on board and 11 members of crew, when police arrived at the airport.
The 51-year-old pilot, thought to be American, was breath-tested and taken to Heathrow police station where he was later released on bail.
Passengers were put on to other planes after the flight, scheduled to depart at 12.05pm on Monday, was cancelled, but were not told the real reason why.
A United Airlines spokeswoman said: ”United Airlines' alcohol policy is amongst the strictest in the industry and we have no tolerance for violation of this well-established policy.”
