Vicar sorry for grave mix-up

A vicar apologised to two families after an administrative error led to a murder victim being inadvertently buried in a grave reserved for another family.

The Rev Nigel Carter, vicar of St John's Church in Walsall Wood, West Midlands, said he was seeking advice from the legal office of the Diocese of Lichfield to find a solution acceptable to both families, adding that he had apologised to both. In a statement he confirmed that the body of Daniel Hastelow, who was stabbed to death in Majorca, had been buried last Monday in a plot reserved by a local widow.

The plot had been reserved for the widow of Michael Best, who was buried in January 2009.
