We won’t be dragged back to past: parties
Monday, 9 March 2009
Political parties at the Assembly were today set to unite to condemn the Massereene attack — and insist Northern Ireland will not be dragged back to the past.
First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness were due to address MLAs ahead of a special amendment debate, with scheduled Assembly business overshadowed by the weekend deaths and injuries.
The DUP and Sinn Fein leaders met Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Stormont Castle, following his visit to the Antrim barracks, ahead of a meeting involving all the party leaders.
It was also announced that Mr Robinson and Mr McGuinness, who cancelled their planned trade mission to the United States immediately after the Saturday night attack, will now travel later this week.
The two men had been due to be in Chicago today, where they were due to meet the city’s renowned mayor, Richard Daley, a key figure in the Democratic Party. as part of the drive for new investment in the province.
European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering said the two communities in Northern Ireland “want to put the evil of the past behind them”.

I live in Germany and I always thought it is the right cause to peacefully fight for one IRISH Ireland- in fact there is no intelligent reason why the british stay there... I never liked what british colonization and impirial thinking did to the World- next to The Apartheid, The Killing of the Indians or Slavery stands english Imperialism- and nearly every conflict in this world has its roots in the english Empire...
But last week taught me different in one point.
There is NO EXCUSE for killing 20year old unarmed Soldiers in NI after 12 years of ceasefire.
This is not a military Operation but cold blooded murder.
The old IRA would have send a message that they dont feel bound on the contract of peace any more and would have said that they start Operations again- and they would have given a timeline for the British troops to react on.... they would have picked armed troups as targets, not unarmed soldiers going for a pizza.
Whoever did this is just a MURDERER.

The murder of the policeman in Armagh only 2 days after the murders of the 2 British soldiers requires a renewed effort by all parties in Ireland, North and South, to support the G.F.A. peace arrangement, which is highly beneficial to Ireland as whole -also to G.B. The Dáil should give G.F.A. and peace in the North greater support that a "Yes" vote to Lisbon.

The British will never leave land that is theirs by right. If those in N Ireland wish for a seperation, they will use DEMOCRATIC means to achieve it.
If the Irish are still cowardly to kill innocent people, you are pushing a union further away.
British troops has every right to protect their borders and people.

The media in Ireland (North and South), G.B. and the U.S. could heldp by not giving so much publicity to the murderers who call themselves RIRA. The despicable action so close to St. Patrick's Day may have focused extra attention on the criminals and given them an added sense of "achievement" for their atrocities.

How lovely Catherine......unfortunately the rest of us live in the real world and these killings will continue as long as the British allow Unionism to dictate political life here in Ireland and also within the UK. These soldiers like so many before them died needlessly and no doubt others will follow.....some innocent 'taig' will get it for this from the British security forces controlled Unionist loyalists and not one word about their weapons will be mentioned....in fact, not one of them will be arrested for it....and so it will go on, and on, and on, and on until somebody realises that the only permanent resolution is British withdrawal and then all killings will cease....very simple solution to a very simple problem

Northern Ireland is my country, I don't consider myself British or Irish I am Northern Irish and I am proud to be Northern Irish, I will not be defined by the colours on British flags or the ones on Irish flags, its about time that politicians and these mindless killers realised that and leave us all to live in peace.
