Wedding telegrams going high-tech

Saturday, 27 December 2008

A Northern Ireland bride frustrated she didn’t have enough time to chat with guests on her big day has designed a potential solution for other newlyweds.

Claire Forbes from Magherafelt hopes her ’virtual’ guestbook will give married couples a chance to hear everyone’s best wishes after the hubbub of the wedding has died down.

The innovative device allows friends and relatives to record their own personalised video messages during the reception which the bride and groom can then watch back at their leisure.

The Belfast-based interior designer managed to turn her idea into reality after persuading an electrical company in the Republic to build it for her.

"The company make the sort of interactive visitor information machines you might find at a zoo or museum," she explained.

"I contacted them to see if they could adapt one and fit it with a camera and they said they’d give it a go."

She has just taken delivery of her six foot tall touch-screen machine and has already secured her first wedding booking for next year.

"It looks high-tech but it’s really simple to use," she said.

"You can even wipe the message if you’re not happy with it and start again.

"The good thing is the DVD takes no time to create. While you can wait three or four months for your official wedding video, this will be ready in a couple of weeks, just in time for the couple coming back from honeymoon."

Telegrams have gone high-tech, even the traditional telegram is now online (www.itelegram.com)
How much longer will it be until the wedding itself takes place exclusivley online at some type of cyber golf course.

Brown can't even stick to his own nonsense on Afghanistan

Bit by bit, as happened with Iraq, the reasons for staying in Afghanistan slide into gibberish. So Gordon Brown's reasons for the war seem to change every week.

Cannabis: it’s time to stop the lies and start a rational debate

It doesn't require a Leap of faith to support the growing calls for a radical rethink of policy on drugs and in particular on the decriminalisation of cannabis.

We're stuck with the Assembly . . . and it's no laughing matter

A few evenings ago the Minister of Health at Stormont, Michael McGimpsey, was to be seen on the television news offering his audience what he termed a 'joke'.
