Weeping robber given 18 months

A man who robbed his local pub with a broken bottle wept in court yesterday as he was jailed for 18 months and put on probation for a further 18 months.

Standing in the dock of Belfast Crown Court, 28-year-old Gary McAuley continually wiped away tears as Her Honour Judge Kennedy passed sentence.

McAuley, from Southwell Street in Belfast, pleaded guilty to robbing Molly Maguire's pub of £100 and possessing a broken bottle on Great George's Street on July 8 last year.
