Woman held hostage in petrol station raid

Monday, 1 December 2008

A woman was held hostage in west Belfast while her captors demanded money from her filling station manager relative, police have said.

The victim said she was forced to drive from south Belfast to Glencolin Close on November 24 where she was put in a white van.

She was detained by her kidnappers for several hours while they asked for cash from the relative.

She was released on the Ballykennedy Road, Nutt's Corner, Co Antrim, later that afternoon.

The assailants didn't receive any money and the woman was unharmed.

Investigating officers want to speak to anyone who was near Dudley Street, south Belfast, where the woman said she was forced to drive her white Audi from between 9 and 10am.

They would also like to speak to anyone who saw the same car, which had paint damage to its bonnet, or a white van, in the Glencolin area of west Belfast a short time later.

The final appeal is to anyone who was on or near the Ballykennedy Road in Nutts corner who saw a white van.

Horse first, then cart ... it’s time nationalists got real about unity

No political regime likes uncertainty. Talk of unexpected elections makes politicians twitchy. Meal tickets can be put at risk.
