Woman killed at Twelfth to be buried

The funeral of a 30-year-old woman who was killed by a car at an Orange Order parade will take place today.

Deborah Jordan from Saintfield was one of two family members struck by a car while leaving the field after Twelfth celebrations in Killyleagh, Co Down.

Deborah, a member of Cahard flute band, was airlifted to hospital but later died from her injuries.

After a short service in the family home the postal worker’s cortege will travel one mile to Ballygowan Presbyterian Church for a funeral service at 2pm.

Local Post Office staff will form a guard of honour as the coffin arrives at the church ahead of the ceremony led by Rev Brian Black.

The Cahard Flute Band, of which Miss Jordan was a member, will provide the music.

Interment will follow in the adjoining churchyard.

Deborah was killed in a tragic accident that happened at Coily Hill around 4pm on Monday during the return parade after the religious service.

It is understood Deborah was playing music at the time and didn’t hear the car approaching from behind.

Her second cousin Joshua Barr (9) was also knocked down by the runaway vehicle, but escaped with minor injuries.

A PSNI spokesman said the circumstances surrounding the accident were under investigation.
