Woman killed in road accidentt

A woman has been killed and another injured in a road accident in Omagh, Co Tyrone, police said today.

The woman, in her late 30s, was walking along the Dromore Road between Lammy and Clanabogan shortly after 11pm last night when she was struck by a car.

A female passenger in the car was injured and taken to hospital where her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

A police spokeswoman appealed for anyone in the area who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.

Despite a series of road campaigns the death toll on Northern Ireland's roads is running considerably higher than last year. The woman was the 88th to died so far this year compared to 75 at the same time in 2008.
