Woman threw glass at her alleged bedroom rapist, court told

A woman who claims she was raped while she slept, threw a glass at her alleged attacker before raining kicks and punches on him, a jury has heard.

Giving evidence at the Belfast Crown Court trial of 32-year-old Tichatonga Manfred Mutemajiri, his alleged victim told the jury how, moments after she awoke to find him allegedly having sex with her, he ended up “curled up on the floor like a baby” as she landed kicks about his body.

Mutemajiri, from Parklands in Belfast, denies a single count of raping the 27-year-old in the early hours of November 10, 2007.

Earlier prosecuting QC Ken McMahon outlined to the jury how the woman had met Mutemajiri and his friend at Skye nightclub when she was out with her friend.

The four ended up back at a house in the Finaghy area of Belfast and the 27-year-old had sex with another man before falling asleep in bed.

“She woke up at about 8am,” said the lawyer, “lying on her face with someone lying on top of her having sex with her.”

He added that although she initially thought it was the man she had had consensual sex with, she soon realised it was allegedly Mutemajiri and became very angry, ordering him to get off her.

Later while giving evidence, the often emotional woman described telling Mutemajiri to “get the f*** off me” and ordering him out of the bedroom but that he kept coming back “to try to calm me down” and it was then that she threw the glass at him, leaving the shattered fragments lying on the bedroom floor.

She told the jury that when she went out of the room, Mutemajiri was in her way and she began to hit him with the pair ending up downstairs where she continued the physical attack.

During police interviews Mutemajiri claimed he had touched the 27-year-old's private parts in a consensual way but that there had been no sexual intercourse.

The trial, set to last for a week, continues.
