Mail strike could harm businesses

Two planned 24-hour national strikes by Royal Mail workers next week will jeopardise the livelihood of business owners in Northern Ireland, it has been warned.

As thousands of postal workers across the province are set to walk out next Thursday, major concerns have been voiced that the strike will affect businesses relying on receiving vital supplies, invoices and payments.

The Federation of Small Businesses said any delay in post could “severely impact on livelihoods and even be detrimental to the future of the business”.

The first strike will see mail centre staff and drivers walk out next Thursday with delivery and collection staff striking the next day. They will cause huge delays to deliveries to homes and businesses around the country.

Royal Mail has advised customers, where possible, to post mail before or after industrial action takes place.
