Local charity Mencap is partnering with www.mad4ads.co.uk to raise money for Segal House, which provides a specialised pre-school environment where children with learning disabilities and their parents benefit from having all the specialist help they need under one roof, and local celebrities are signing up to help raise much needed funds.
www.mad4ads.co.uk is the new local trading web site where Northern Ireland goes to buy and sell – everything from concert tickets to lawnmowers, fridges to bedroom furniture it’s all there.
Kirsten Howie, Head of Donor Development at Mencap, said the charity has already signed up a number of high profile people, including Sky News presenter Eamonn Holmes.
“Eamonn is perhaps the country's most high profile Manchester United supporter,” said Ms Howie.
“He works in London and commutes to Belfast but worships at Old Trafford. Eamonn is offering the ultimate construction kit - a scale down replica of football's most famous home that should keep your youngest or oldest Manchester United fan occupied for weeks on end! So if you can't get to Old Trafford, with Eamonn's donation, Old Trafford will come to you.”
Jason Shankey has also given his support.
"Jason has very kindly donated his Fender electric guitar, in aid of Mencap, the voice of learning disability," said Ms Howie
"He would like to donate his Fender electric guitar which he used to play in his band 'NDM' back in 1987. Jason’s one great escape is rock music. It may come as a bit of surprise, but as a form of relaxation from his life, he loves to fill his home with the sounds of AC/DC, Slash, Biffy Clyro and Nirvana."
"But due to the overtime he has been working over the past 18 months, he doesn’t get the chance to play it as much as he would like recently and feels that money raised for Mencap would be much more beneficial than it sitting gathering dust in his studio."
"We also have one of artist Terry Bradley’s famous hats, a dinner for two and a guided tour of Stormont with Alliance MLA Anna Lo and Maureen Piggot has donated the hat she wore when she was presented with her OBE. There is also a signed Hollyoaks script from Gerald McCarthy and lots more to come from other well known personalities."
