A racist group directing hate-filled abuse at Roma rose-sellers in Northern Ireland has appeared on the social networking site Facebook.

The group, which has over 15,000 members, appears to have been created in Belfast and is now recruiting members from across Ireland.

Among the posts are: “dont be so horrible those poor smelly theifing (SIC) c**** they might feel unwelcome and f*** off back home haha”.

SDLP MLA Conall McDevitt, who came across the site, has reported the page to the PSNI’s Hate Crime Unit. He also contacted Facebook on Thursday night about the offensive site, and is angry that it has yet to take action.

“We must have zero tolerance for racism in Ireland, north and south,” he said.

Facebook was unable to provide a comment last night when contacted by the Belfast Telegraph.
