A Co Londonderry concrete products company today rolled out plans for a £10m expansion which will create 100 jobs over the next two years.
Tobermore Concrete Products, which specialises in paving and walling products, made the announcement as it landed a top European business award.
The family-owned company was named last night in Athens as the winner of the European Foundation for Quality Management awards.
Tobermore operates from its manufacturing base in south Derry, but also has an outlet at Clandeboye near Bangor.
The company has expanded its workforce by 100 over the past two years and now provides employment for 265 people directly, and for 80 people indirectly as lorry drivers and fitters.
David Henderson, the managing director, said they had enjoyed double digit growth every year for the past seven years.
He said the growth had been boosted by strong sales in Northern Ireland and also in the Republic where it had benefited from the construction boom.
He said the two-year investment programme was aimed at keeping abreast with the "phenomenal" growth in the company's sales of walling and paving products in Northern Ireland, the Republic and Britain.
Mr Henderson said: "Our sales have doubled in the past three years alone.
"The proposed addition of two new state-of-the-art processing units is about ensuring we have the capability not only to meet with today's demands, but also to meet the requirements of our aggressive growth strategy."
He said the investment would enable the company to increase manufacturing capacity by 50%.
The first phase of the expansion will see the construction of a 3,500m sq manufacturing facility to house a new block paving machine, on land which it has purchased adjacent to its current site.
Phase two, which will begin next spring, will involve the purchase and installation of a new slab making machine which will provide opportunities to extend the company's already wide and successful product range.
Tobermore has a turnover of around £40m and sells its walling and paving products to both commercial and domestic customers direct from the factory and through a number of sales' outlets in Ireland and Britain. Its products have been used in many high profile locations including The K Club in Co Kildare, Hastings Hotels, a number of major retail parks and a range of housing schemes.
Mr Henderson said that the company's success in the European quality awards demonstrated that manufacturers from Northern Ireland could compete with the best in Europe.
