A 28-year-old man has been released on bail after allegedly stabbing another man in the head with a fork.
Cathal James Joseph Murphy sat in the dock at Londonderry Magistrate’s Court yesterday shaking and with his head in his hands as a charge of unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was read out.
A police constable said he could connect the accused with the charge, which relates to an incident on High Street in Draperstown in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The officer said that the alleged victim suffered “stab wounds and lacerations to the head and face” which were “not deep” and had been caused by a “kitchen fork”.
He added that “drink played quite a role” in the incident.
Magistrate Des Perry released Murphy on his own bail of £500, and he was ordered not to reside within a 30-mile radius of Draperstown, to avoid alcohol, to observe a curfew between 9pm and 8pm and to sign in at Magherafelt Police Station three times a week. He was ordered to reappear at Magherafelt court on September 23.
