Convicted sex offender Eamon Foley (48) is to appeal against the imposition of a Sexual Offender's Prevention Order (SOPO) which was placed on him after he was jailed for 16 years in 1999 for raping a 91-year-old woman.
Foley, from Castlederg in Co Tyrone, was convicted of raping Mary Anne McLaughlin in her mobile home on the outskirts of Castlederg. Four weeks after she was raped, Miss McLaughlin died.
At the Crown Court in Derry yesterday, it was confirmed by barrister Owen Devlin that Foley is to appeal against both the imposition of the SOPO and against his conviction for breaching the order.
Both appeals will be heard in the Crown Court on April 14.
