Mirjam Bader, the Director of The Rainbow Project said: "The development of the centre is a major achievement for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Sector in Belfast and will enable the community to increase partnership working, share resources, provide more support to individual LGBT people, raise the profile of same-sex attracted people and work towards improving good relations between people of different sexual orientations.’

"The opening of the first LGBT centre for Belfast is also an important development for the city as whole. We are honoured to have Lord Mayor, who has themed her year in office as ‘Belfast without Barriers’, opening our premises.

"The development of this centre, which will provide improved service delivery, an increased profile for LGBT people in this city and further opportunities to increase good relations, will go a long way to breaking down the barriers faced by same-sex attracted people in the city of Belfast".

The Lord Mayor said she was delighted to have been invited along to perform the official opening and pledged to do everything she could to open doors for the associated groups regarding attracting future funding.
