THE elimination of former Sinn Fein MLA Cathal O hOisin in East Londonderry added the only element of drama to an otherwise uneventful count in this constituency.

By teatime on Friday two MLAs had been deemed elected - Maurice Bradley and George Robinson for the DUP.

The final declaration saw Adrian McQuillan join his two party colleagues and hold the three DUP seats.

Independent unionist Claire Sugden, who was co-opted to the Assembly two years ago, won the seat in her own right, and Caoimhe Archibald of Sinn Fein followed her.

All eyes had been on what the final tally would be between the SDLP's Gerry Mullan and Sinn Fein's Mr O hOisin, and it was Mr Mullan who made it across the finishing line.
