Lagan Valley: Palmer comes back to haunt her former party
Lagan Valley is something of a stronghold for the DUP, with the party returning four MLAs in the last election.
But its dominance was rattled by a former DUP councillor who defected to the UUP.
The "Jenny Palmer effect", as some were calling it, saw her elected at the expense of established DUP man Jonathan Craig.
She is now one of two Ulster Unionist MLAs for the area alongside newcomer Robbie Butler, who has served as a fireman for the last 16 years.
The DUP's Paul Givan was first over the line, followed by his colleagues Edwin Poots and Brenda Hale.
The Alliance Party's Trevor Lunn finished second in the overall count.
