£11m expansion at Galgorm Resort creates dozens more jobs

An £11 million expansion of a Co Antrim hotel and spa has created almost 80 new jobs, its owners have said.

The development of the Galgorm Resort and Spa includes the creation of a spa village and 48 new guest rooms.

The additions to the award-winning Ballymena venue were officially opened by Terence Brannigan, chairman of Tourism NI.

Galgorm, which opened in 1998, now has 122 guest rooms.

Mr Brannigan said the expansion would enhance Northern Ireland's reputation as a tourist destination

"The vision, passion and commitment shown by the team at Galgorm Resort and Spa is reinforcing the message that Northern Ireland is competing on a global scale, and we look forward to welcoming the many thousands of visitors it will no doubt attract," he said.

Galgorm managing director Paul Smyth said: "This project was undertaken to create a world-class addition to the already outstanding guest facilities here."
