Northern Ireland’s arts industry is to receive a cash injection to give it an international edge.

The Arts Council will invest a total £150,000 over the next three years, funding writers, musicians, artists, dance and visual art groups to tour their productions abroad.

The Artists’ International Development Fund — a joint initiative with the British Council providing grants worth a total of £50,000 — opened today.

Groups and individual artists can apply for grants of up to £5,000.

The initiative is one of a package of new funding schemes from the Arts Council which is designed to boost the international reputation of Northern Ireland’s arts sector.

Other Arts Council projects — such as international residencies and the Professional Artists Abroad scheme — will offer grants to bodies seeking more than £5,000.
